ICAR RC for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib organized closing function of “Khet Bachao Abhiyan Campaign”
on 1st July 2026 in the conference Hall of ICAR Mizoram Centre. The function was graced by Mr. H. Dolianbuaia, Deputy Commissioner, Kolasib as a Chief Guest
and the event was attended by Officials from NABARD, Block Agriculture Officer, District Horticulture Officer, Village Council President and several farmers
from Kolasib district.
Dr. S Doley, HoRC, ICAR Mizoram Centre while welcoming the participants, explained the importance “Khet Bachao
Abhiyan” campaign which was conducted during 1-30 June 2026. He explained that the main aim of the campaign is creation of awareness to farmers and highlighted
9 different villages of Kolasib districts were covered during the campaign by the two different team of ICAR Mizoram Centre. Dr. Doley expressed that several aspects
including soil fertility, soil health card, biofertilizers, green manuring, crop diversification, integrated nutrient management, natural farming etc., were covered
during the campaign. He also mentioned that awareness on balance use of fertilizers was created among several farmers through lectures and interactions. He also expressed
that the campaign will be highly beneficial for farmers of the state and help in improving the soil fertility, crop productivity and farmers income.

H. Dolianbuaia, DC appreciated ICAR Mizoram Centre for organizing “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” campaign in the district which will surely improve the livelihood of the farming communities of the district as well as the state. He also expressed the importance of judicious use of fertilizers while highlight the present practice of excess application of fertilizers, which can severely decrease the soil fertility as well as the production. While highlighting the importance of judicious fertilizer use, he expressed that hardwork and dedication is needed and farmers need to adopt better scientific practices in consultation with experts.
Mr. JD Traite, DDM, NABARD highlighted the importance of fertilizer application at recommended dose, adoption of scientific farming, integrated farming, organic farming for sustainable production. While mentioning the need for proper application of fertilizer, he explained that the bank can also provide financial support to farmers through different schemes.
Dr. Lianthanzaua, Block Agriculture Officer, mentioned that the fertilizer use in the state is still low compared to other states, Glycel is widely and commonly used by farmers across the state which could adversely affect the soil fertility thereby the crops. He also expressed the importance of use of farm yard manure, crop diversification, crop rotation, green manuring and soil health card for improving the overall crop production while considering the use of fertilizer at proper dose, proper time.
Mr. Lalnunpuia, District Horticulture Officer mentioned that excessive use of fertilizers by the farmers can results in reduction of soil fertility and crop production and highlighted the importance of fertilizer use at proper dose, different cropping systems for improving the soil quality and production. He appreciated ICAR Mizoram Centre and said that the campaign will result in conserving the soil fertility, crop production and farmers income.

The function ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Blessa Sailo, Sr. Scientist, ICAR Mizoram Centre, Kolasib. Inputs (Soil health card & Hand weeder/Chemkawi) were also distributed during the function which was attended by 91 farmers and 13 officials from different departments. A Field Day Programme on "High-Yielding Waxy Corn Maize Varieties of Mizoram and Their Production Technology" was also organized at the research farm of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Mizoram Centre, Kolasib after the event.
